Remember:
#1 Cease repetitive tasks. If you don't rest and reduce injury you will never heal.
#2 Wrist rests - Always wear at night during sleep. Wear only judiciously during day hours. Your wrists need some exercise and wrist rests can actually be counter productive to healing if over worn.
#2. Ice your wrist(s) 2-3 times a day. This will help reduce inflammation
#3. Stretching: helps relax fluxor muscles and reduces the strain on the nerves
#4. Massage: This does very little but can reduce inflammation by helping re-absorb extra fluid in the inflamed area. It can also relax the fluxor muscles which reduces the pulling effect that causes the pinching feeling in the wrist.
#5. Exercise: This is the most important! Very controlled, small motion exercise of the extensor muscles will help create equilibrium between flexor and extensor muscles and greatly reduce the liklihood of re-injury to wrists. Strong muscles and avoiding long repetition of straining movement are the answer to prevention of Carpal Tunnel.
This isn't foolproof and there are no guarantee's, but these techniques are the best way to avoid surgery. If you attempt these techniques and don't see improvement after several weeks then you'll want to think about injections in the affected wrist. These aren't that bad, but know that if the injection doesn't cure your CT you'll definitely be looking at surgery. This is why preventive care is so important!!
