BASF Spraytite 178 Closed Cell Spray Foam Installation & Review
ECI (Energy Conservation Insulation) Bend, Oregon.
Foam installed in "Avadon's Workshop."
~R-30 in 4.5" of walls
~R-40 in 7" of ceiling rafters
Job took 2 installers, 2 days to do. Total of about 32 man hours.
Incredible difference between before and after! Several times better than fiberglass.
Total cost $8,295.00
Catalyst odor was gone after 48hrs.
Very pleased with the work.
Read the product data and MSDS sheet on BASF Spraytite 178 before using.
IMPORTANT: If you are doing more than 2" of foam like I did, MAKE SURE they are not spraying more than 2" at a time in each pass. You must make sure the first 1/2" to 2" coat is fully cured before they spray over it with an additional pass, otherwise the catalyst and odors will never off-gass correctly and you'll never be able to remove the smell. Most pro's know this, but better to ask them about it then be sorry. Talk to the guy doing the spraying so you know, that he knows this. BASF has been known to wipe their hands clean of bad installs from SPF installers that sprayed to significant thicknesses in just one pass. They're just a supplier, not an installer. A little bit of communication with all the details of the job could be the difference between an excellent job and a huge nightmare. The buck ultimately stops with the home owner, so I made this video so you'd be informed before you start the job. Closed Cell Spray Foam is an absolutely amazing product when installed correctly and can reduce heating and cooling costs in enormous ways. ~Enjoy!
